The entertainment industry has been scratching their heads and wondering why ticket sales for films have been in the doldrums for so long. With the success of Ice Age: The Meltdown’s opening weekend, they’re starting to realize that family oriented animated films might be the road back to profitability.
Profits from Animated Family Films Make Economic Sense
The LA Times recently published an article about how strong ticket sales for family- oriented films have turned the heads of movie studio execs. The success of these animated pictures makes perfect economic sense. If both parents and kids will enjoy a movie, ticket sales will increase as entire families go to the theater. In addition, famous actors who do voice-over parts for animation programs can’t command nearly as much in wages as they would acting in a feature film. Higher volume ticket sales mixed with lower costs is a formula for increased profits.
Studios Investing In Computer Animation
The entertainment industry has taken notice of the animation trends and is investing a lot more money in their computer animation studios. Disney recently merged with Pixar, betting that the computer animation studio would help them corner the fast growing market for computer animated films. Warner, Fox, and DreamWorks have entered the fray as well, all of them planning to release a number of animated comedies aimed at the whole family in the near future.

If you have an intimate knowledge of computer animation software coupled with the artistic skills necessary to tell an animated story, your chances of landing an animation job in this growing market are much improved.
